A millionaire purchased a decommissioned lighthouse in his hometown. The plan of the venture was to construct a boardwalk leading to the structure and then populate the area with a small amusement park over the limited space the shallows provided so the property could turn a profit.
What entrepreneur and eccentric Richard Big wanted at all costs was a classic out-and- back wooden coaster to compete with the ones the landlocked parks had, but building straight out into the ocean was too dangerous, and setting footers into the sand of the shallows was expensive enough as it was. These parameters inspired him to make a truly irrational demand; he wanted a roller coaster with as long a length but as little track as possible.
A railroad engineer responded with a concept utilizing switcher mechanisms so the trains could travel along sections of the track in both directions - thus minimizing the amount of costly ocean-supports that were needed. The pier’s main attraction Warwind packs as much ride as possible into its scrunched footprint while the status of its whopping four trains are monitored by a team of professionals stationed along the layout to ensure no collisions can occur and the ride remains “totally safe, guys” as Mr. Big described it in an interview.
