It is mars in the year 2650 at the Isidis Basin Research Station. Over the last century or so, humanity has begun terraforming Mars. They've been flooding craters and allowing sealife/plants to grow in the new lakes. In order to get oxygen levels to rise, algae has been used extensivly in these lakes, which is what has made the water such a dark shade of green.
