PROGRAM: Object displacement. A tale of a dystopian past.

The year is 1976, the cold war is in full effect. Significant steps in scientific research are being made, probably one of the only good effects war can have on human civilization. In particular the field of astrophysics is experiencing great progress. Our understanding of general relativity and space-time is increasing as time passes. Black holes, one of the latest unknown frontiers are being discovered and interest is gained in ways to manipulate them for human use. Since Einstein’s and Rosen’s discoveries in 1935 the ideas of wormholes have existed on paper, but it wasn’t until 1976 when they were made into reality. In a top secret NASA funded research trial a small wormhole was made inside a lab allowing mice to travel from point A to point B instantly, covering a distance of 3 meters. Due to the risk of the technology falling into the wrong hands the existence of the trials was kept secret to the public.

In October the 21st, 1976 there was a breach into NASA’s databases by an at that point still unknown group of hackers. Later they would come forwards as The Order of Ra’s al-Meskhenet, or Toram for short, an international group of fanatics obsessed by Egyptian mythology. They believed that the Sphynx of Giza was built as a beacon to communicate with extra-terrestrial lifeforms. Supposedly, unknown technology with said purpose could be found in hidden chambers within the Sphynx, locked off and heavily guarded by the Egyptian government.

With their newly obtained information about wormhole technology a plan was drafted so megalomaniacal and seemingly impossible, that it would later be known as the greatest heist of mankind. In order to break into the Sphynx of Giza and unearth its secrets, the idea was to bring the entire structure to them. And thus a similar contraption was made as the one from the lab trials only increased in size by 10 000 fold, large enough to move objects the size of skyscrapers.
On October the 21st, 1977, exactly one year after the NASA breach, the contraption was put to the test. Inside an empty nuclear missile silo in western Ukraine the leader of Toram spoke to his disciples: “Today the entire world will get to know who we are. Today we will get to know what the Egyptian government has been hiding from the world! Today…, we will make history! Commence Program Object displacement!” And so, as the disciples watched the Sphynx of Giza make its way through their man made portal, inch by inch, they came to realize that they managed to do the impossible…
