In my PCC entry I recreated Boudewijn Seapark which is based in Bruges, Belgium. The park opened in 1963 as Boudewijnpark, named after the king of Belgium, but is struggling with a toxic cocktail of low park attendees, outdated attractions, competition of nearby parks and entertainment, animal welfare protests, and negative reviews on social media (see: https://www.looopings.nl/weblog/25493/Pretpark-in-erbarmelijke-staat-youtuber-verguist-Boudewijn-Seapark.html). I recreated the park with ‘what if all still operates smoothly today’ in mind and built a lot of attractions and stalls that are nowadays removed (colored in RED in the ride list).

Park history story (feel free to skip this and just go on with the review in-game):
Upon opening in the 1960s the Boudewijnpark held outdoor sports facilities, a large excavated lake, a gymnastics hall, tea house, mini golf, playgrounds, a large indoor multiplex building for concerts, music events, wedding parties, etc., an archery club with the iconic popinjay tower, and an ice skating club with an ice rink for the local population.

In 1971 it became nationwide known by opening the dolphinarium that was inconveniently placed on the other side of a public road! Several other non-marine animals were acquired these years as well. In 1977, the remarkable exhibition of the Heirmanklok, an astronomical clockwork masterpiece, was placed in the park and remained there for 40 years!

In 1988 a whole bunch of second-hand attractions from a bankrupt amusement park in Spain were purchased to mix in with the existing animal exhibits. The only coaster, a custom Tivoli-model junior coaster by Zierer, opened in 2000 and was the last addition prior to the takeover by the Spanish group Aspro Parks in 2003. Soon after the park was renamed as Boudewijn Seapark. This corporation operates several amusement parks, water parks, aquaria, and zoos in Europe, so what could possibly go wrong!?

Some large additions under the new management are the sea lion show (2007), Bobo’s Indoor kids playhall (2009), and water playground Bobo’s AquaSplash (2014). However, Boudewijn Seapark has been in decline for years and doesn’t age well. Many animal rights organizations have been protesting for years against the park's exploitation of animals for public entertainment, and even the Flemish minister of Animal Welfare opted for a phase-out plan for the dolphinarium! Many attractions have been removed as they reached their end of life or were otherwise removed in the last 20+ years, with often empty spots in the park in return.

The current condition of the park (see web-source above) reveals a water fountain without water, animal enclosures without animals, the big multi-event hall being demolished due to a danger of collapse, poorly maintained fences, paths, greenery, … I’m curious how the park will manage the coming years. I’ve never visited it myself so it’s all online research, but it’s probably half the truth and half exaggerated!

Thanks for reading, enjoy your stay in the park!
