The layout and theming River Rapids Ride has been greatly influenced by a similar ride in the Dutch theme park, De Efteling. The ride, simply called Piraña, opened in 1983 and was the first of its kind in Europe. It is themed around native South-American culture and draws elements from the Maya, Inca and Aztec civilizations. The ride that was build on this plot is only loosely based on this theming and has a layout only similar to a certain extent. More to the point, it is the typical Efteling atmosphere that has been attempted to copy in this plot. This is visible through the usage of lush foliage, fairy tale-like buildings and great attention to detail. In a way it is a tribute to De Efteling, a park so beautiful one can only strive to recreate it in OpenRCT2.
