Welcome to Klinkgrad!

The town was founded as a resource colony near the arctic circle shortly after World War 2, and was named after famed ace pilot Dmitry Klinkovic.
The town mostly produced lumber, as the region was known for it's extraordinary quality of wood.
As such, the sawmill was the largest employer in town.

Defining features of the town are the large sawmill, the riverside cafetaria, and the northernmost statue of sputnik in the world, at that time a great source of pride for the townspeople.
In soviet times, the entire town was owned by the state-owned company "Arktipilo", with almost 2000 people living in the town at its peak in 1976.
Sadly, after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Arktipilo became a privately owned company and it was decided to stop operations at Klinkgrad.
Once the sawmill had closed, the once bustling town fell silent within months.

Almost thirty years have passed, with the town essentialy frozen in the last days of the Soviet Union.
Due to the construction of a new road nearby, the abandoned town has been rediscovered and turned into somewhat of a tourist attraction.
The sawmill has been turned into a large log flume, the riverside cafetaria is now a hotel and restaurant, while the sputnik statue still stands as a testament to the old times.
