Located in the Royal County of Berkshire, lies the Sir Chester Beeden Estate. Sir Chester is an avid equestrian rider and built a world-renowned equestrian facility (built in 1992) that hosts numerous tournaments year-round. Unfortunately, the Swinley Forest fire in May 2011 burned down a portion of the forest on his property. Fortunately, the main facilities were not harmed and only a portion of his forested trails were lost in the fires.
As an older gentleman, Sir Chester realized the sport of equestrian riding was fading in young adults and decided he needed a way to revitalize his facility and make it more modern to draw interest from the youth. Based on a suggestion from his nephew, Sir Chester decided to revitalize the burned down section of the property and build two dueling coasters to help draw in young individuals and garner interest in equestrian riding. The two tracks were named after his prized horses; the black thoroughbred Onyx and the reddish-brown quarter-horse Whiskey.
The facility has been thriving ever since. The growth has encouraged record participation in the youth program at the facility and has resulted in the construction of the new training grounds for youths. Please enjoy your visit of the grounds.
