In 1869 the town of Rainbow Ridge was incorporated in the foothills of the Big Thunder Mountain Range after gold was discovered in the depths under the Mountain.
As the newly founded Big Thunder Mining Co. continued to extract the ore from the mountain, they were warned by the native inhabitants of the land to cease their operations for fear of angering the Spirits inhabiting the peaks of Big Thunder.

Yet the company continued to extract load upon load of gold from the depths.
And the Spirits grew angry.

First the rivers flooded,
Then the ground opened up,
And the Heavens fell upon the Mountain,
Yet the Company kept digging,
Until.

The Spirits took control of the mine trains running through Big Thunder! The Spirits twisted and contorted the tracks while the trains powered through the new curves and hills, narrowly avoiding plunging down the cliffs of the mountains or being submerged in the depths of the rivers. Rainbow Ridge was left all but abandoned after the disasters, but the few remaining residents won't hesitate to retell the story of the Mountain.
