Green Squares Trick

Difficulty level: Easy

Hey everyone! In OpenRCT2, some interesting effects will happen to most vehicles when they pass through a heartline twister transfer track piece. Here's an old screenshot from Mekkit which shows this:

A. Trains with a front car switch the front car into a regular car, and the regular cars into front cars. (Really long Air power Coaster trains makes for a cool conveyor belt.)

B. Trains with a back car switch the regular cars into back cars, and the back car into a regular car.

C. Trains with only one kind of car, like the Wooden Coaster Train, turn into small green squares. (When operating underwater, the little green squares make for great fish in a pond!)

(Note: Any guests onboard that go through a heartline transfer will turn invisible as their regular cars turn into something else)

Most of the times, this trick is used to turn vehicles into little green squares. Alternatively, the above can also instead be done using the ride vehicle editor plugin. Vehicles with only 1 variant will have a green square as their second variant.

You may be wondering why you would turn your vehicles into little green squares. These green squares have been used in many parks for different purposes. You could use them to represent wind, or you could put them underwater and act as fish. If you recolour the grass colour using a custom palette, you can turn the little squares into any colour you need.

Here's an example where I turned the green squares white using a palette, and used them to make a moving starry background:

Here's an example where the green squares are used to represent wind in a tornado:

One thing you should keep in mind about these green squares is that they are glitchy vehicles, and they are quite noisy if they move fast! So if you use them in a park, make sure to keep the speed low, or make sure there is music playing in the park to sort of drown out the sound! In the video below I show some more examples of parks where the green square trick was used!
